Coffee & Kettlebells

Athena Laz is a licensed psychologist and a columnist for Cosmopolitan Magazine who recently created a program that is specially designed to help you overcome your inner critic. If you find that you’re struggling to cope with a harsh inner critic, you can begin addressing this by being more mindful of thought patterns in your day-to-day life. It can also help to take a step back and recognize what emotions you’re feeling, instead of falling back on defense mechanisms and being reactive.

What You'll Learn:

  • An inner critic is the voice within your mind that tells you that you aren’t good enough and can also target your insecurities.
  • Don’t place your value on external factors (wealth, looks, career, etc.), because you will always be at risk of handing over your power. When you give away your power to other things or people, you can lose control of your life and personal happiness.
  • Recognize the difference between having goals and placing your self worth on external factors.
  • Affirmations and a positive attitude can be helpful, but they can also be used to cover up how you truly feel.
  • Be mindful with how you interact on social media, which can kickstart a comparative mindset.
  • Being aware of your emotions can be a great place to start when trying to overcome an inner critic. It can also help to talk about these negative emotions in a supportive, safe environment.
