Coffee & Kettlebells

Nov 6, 2019

Let’s chat about intermittent fasting!

There’s a lot of hype around intermittent fasting—and a lot of questions about it, too. How do you intermittent fast? What kind of intermitting fasting should you do? Do you need to intermittent fast to see the results you want?

For starters, intermittent fasting consists of intervals of fasting during which you abstain from eating for a designated period of time. The purpose is to make your body switch from burning sugar as fuel to burning body fat as fuel. So of course it’s a tool used by many to aid in weight loss and increase lean muscle mass.

Intermittent fasting has been something I’ve wanted to discuss for a very long time on Coffee & Kettlebells, although I couldn't find the right person to educate us on the topic. There are countless health and fitness experts who preach intermittent fasting and that it’s the best thing for your health and fitness. While I’m not disagreeing, we are so careful about ensuring we bring guests on the podcast that will provide us with non-biased information and, with intermittent fasting, that’s definitely hard to find.

Thankfully, I found the perfect guest, Mckel Kooienga, MS, RDN, LDN, which many of you know as Nutrition Stripped on Instagram. Mckel is a Registered Dietitian and a self-coined inner health designer, who has created a trailblazing mind-body health company that supports the wellbeing of people around the world. In this episode, Mckel gives us the 411 on intermittent fasting, sharing both the benefits and drawbacks, and helps us understand whether or not we would benefit from it.
